About NDS
For over 40 years NDS drainage systems have been manufacturing and designing products for efficient irrigations systems, storm water management, and other flow management. Their line of durable plastic drainage parts provide a great alternative to metal applications that are simpler to maintain and easier to install. The manufacture of many different innovative plastic drainage products began in 1990 and continues to the present day.
NDS Plastic Catch Basins
Even though these basins are made of plastic, they are made from high quality plastic and are built to last. They are light enough for one person to carry, but strong enough to be buried in planters, the front (or back) yard, and other places where water accumulates on the dirt or lawn. The basins have anywhere from 2 to 4 outlets so that the water can be drained out in more than one direction, keeping the area where it is installed free of standing water.
Grates
NDS drainage grates are made from a variety of materials-not just plastic. If you prefer something other than a plastic grate, there are other options available such as cast iron, galvanized steel, and manganese bronze. All of the grates are designed to fit the catch basins that correspond to the same size of the grate. The holes in the grates are large enough to let water pass through fast while keeping large rocks and other debris from getting in and clogging up the pipe.
NDS Pop-Up Emitters
When the water from the catch basin is diverted away from the yard, it needs a place to go. The pipe that is connected to the basin can lead to other storm drain systems or it can be lead to the gutter by the street. NDS offers elbow fittings that are equipped with pop-up emitters that can be installed next to the curb. As hydrostatic pressure builds up, the spring loaded emitter will pop up and let the water out into the gutter where it can drain into the municipal sewer system. Once the water has been emptied, the top of the emitter will close until more water needs to be drained. The emitter lays flush with the yard so you don’t have to worry about tripping over the fitting, keeping you and others safe.
Channel Drains
If you have water collecting on your driveway or other areas covered in cement or pavement, you may want to consider installing a channel drain. A channel drain is about 5 inches in width and 4 feet to 8 feet in length. It can be installed in the problem area directing water away and keeping the area dry!
